Meet Leonard Woolsey

Thanks for the visit — I’m glad you were curious enough to stop by and visit.

Somehow, I became a writer — ‘somehow’ being the operative word. I never started out to be a writer; doing sort of happened by accident. I’m still surprised at this development.

Years ago, my fifth-grade teacher pulled me aside and said, “Leonard, you should think of becoming a writer. You have got a great way with words.”

Was she playing the role of an encouraging teacher? Who knows, but her words never left my head. And for several decades, the words quietly stewed away like a pot of beans on the stove.

I read to be a writer, you first have to find your voice. Well, for a good while, I didn’t have anything to say nor know how to say it if I did.

Then came children and my world turning upside down. A near-death experience. Being Born Again. Life events started unfolding before me like one of those paper fortune-telling toys.

Then, one day, a friend needed help. I offered to take a stab at writing an every-other-week column in a small-town newspaper. And before I knew what was going on, my column became weekly. That was in 1998 – and I am still writing and sharing weekly.

What I seem to write about is not rocket science. But life, it turns out, is one giant shared experience. I’m not blazing any new trails, discovering hidden secrets to life. But what I do – and humbly – is to try and capture those little moments in life that might easily pass me by. And what I do is share, hoping to connect us.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you find something here you like and come back again.

Take care of each other.

(obligatory third-person description)

Leonard Woolsey is married to his college sweetheart. He and his wife live on a funky little island on the Gulf Coast of Texas — a.k.a. Galveston Island. They’ve two adult children, a crazy-smart rescue Border Collie/Kelpie, and love to travel to off-the-grid experiences.

Some people like his work – his writings and columns earning awards from the Associated Press and multiple press associations…for what that is worth. Others bring him an occasional plate of cookies.

  1. Leonard, I have reposted your response to the Thursday board meeting in Seguin on FB. Thank you for that insightful summary. We long term residents are feeling stunned and hugely let down by the board. As a refresher, I was the one fascinated by your hair! Frankly, I cannot recall who introduced us, but I am grateful that they did and that you were there to capture the essence of democracy in a small town!

  2. I was delighted to meet you at our very interesting school board meeting, here, in Seguin. Please, correct your typos. You are a an elegant voice for us. You were there, your were appalled. Fix the typos. We want the world to know your view.

    1. Thank you for you kind words. I’ve gone back and fixed what I spotted. If you see anything more, please let me know. I appreciate help from others. Have a wonderful weekend.

      1. Lol! I noticed I have my own typo to fix! Thank you!
